Plucky fundraisers from across the north-east have helped raise £8,000 for the Fraserburgh RNLI.
Two dozen people braved the freezing waters of the town’s harbour for the annual Boxing Day swim to drum up funds for their local lifeboat crew.
The swim has been a fixture in the local calendar since 2007 and helps to cover the cost of the life-saving work done by the RNLI volunteers for the town.
Almost £500 in cash donations was collected on the day, and now a spokesman for the lifeboat has revealed that a total of £4,856 was raised from the collection and sponsor donations.
Elsewhere £514 was raised at an annual bowling competition, and a further £2,618 was donated at a haggis dinner.
Last night a spokesman from the station said paid tribute to all those who turned out to help support their local lifeboat.
He said: “Thank you to all the swimmers and the supporters who cheered them on and Fraserburgh Harbour Commissioners
for the use of the harbour basin. Thanks also to George Pirie for organising the bowls competition, all the bowlers who took part and the Leisure centre.”
The spokesman praised the organisers of the Haggis supper which was hosted by the Fraserburgh branch of Legion Scotland.
“Fraserburgh RNLI cannot thank you all enough for the overwhelming support you give us each and every year,” he added.
In January, the Fraserburgh volunteers hosted a poignant wreath-laying ceremony to mark the 46th anniversary of the sinking of The Duchess of Kent lifeboat, a tragedy which cost five volunteers their lives.
