An independent school in Aberdeen could soon open its door to boarders for the first time in 20 years.
Albyn School has revealed plans to turn a guest house on Great Western Road into accommodation for eight pupils and two staff members.
If approved, the car park would be transformed into a garden for the youngsters.
The pupils would be supervised around the clock, and anapplication to the Care Inspectorate to register as a provider of school care accommodation will be made.
A spokeswoman for the school said more room could be made for more boarders if the demand is there.
She said: “This is the first time since the 1990s that we are resuming a boarding service.
“We will be opening up our boarding facilities in August this year.
“We will expand beyond eight pupils if the demand is there.”
The site is owned by Drumrossie Property, which has prepared the application.
In a statement submitted by Norr Consultants to Aberdeen City Council’s planning team, they say: “The proposed development will have no impact on the amenity of the residential area in which it is located as the use will not differ in any discernible way to that of the previous use as a guest house.
“The only difference in the use is the parking requirements which will be reduced and consequently the area of garden will be increased.
“Based on this information it is hoped that the council can support this application.”
