The north-east will blossom into life this weekend as the region plays host to one of its biggest flower shows of the year.
The Spring Flower Show at the David Welch Winter Gardens, in Aberdeen’s Duthie Park, attracts hundreds of plant-lovers from across the city and shire every year.
The event – organised by the Royal Horticultural Society of Aberdeen – will feature a number of exhibits from growers of all ages, with a string of trophies up for grabs.
The show, which has been running since the 1960s, take place on Saturday and Sunday.
As well as exhibits there will be a large number of floral art displays on show in the gardens, along with stalls, bric-a-brac and a raffle.
Horticultural society chairwoman Hazel Main said she was hoping for a great weekend, despite fears the poor weather may have halted the growth of some plants.
She added: “We do get a crowd of visitors going, it is free admission to the winter gardens. People can come in and have a wander.
“We get a lot of fairly big floral arts entries. What we’d really like is to get more kids involved. There is a big section for kids that they can enter. The more kids we can get coming in the better.”
The prizegiving will be held on Sunday afternoon and conducted by Aberdeen’s Lord Provost George Adam.
The event will run from 10.30am until 4.30pm on Saturday and from 10am until 3.30pm on Sunday.
