A group of Aberdeen residents have claimed parking is so bad surrounding their homes that they are at risk of getting run over.
The Queen’s Cross and Ashley householders have complained that illegally-parked cars are causing chaos near busy junctions in the Great Western Road area, and that it is “accident waiting to happen”.
Now local councillor Martin Greig has launched a survey to find out exactly what the problems are.
He has sent the letter to more than 850 residents living in eight streets adjacent to Great Western Road, and is urging people to respond so he can consider how to tackle the issue.
Mr Greig, who has received a variety of responses so far, said: “Cars are parking overnight on double yellows and across driveways which I think must be dealt with as a matter of urgency.
“Cars are parking overnight on double yellows at the junction of Great Western Road, at Louisville Avenue and Granville Place.
“I have been following up this problem with dangerous parking. Parking at the junction is not safe at any time of day because of the risks for both for drivers and pedestrians.
“On three occasions, my constituent and his wife have almost collided with oncoming traffic because of lack of visibility due to illegal parking.
“The worry is that there is a collision waiting to happen.”
Mr Greig said the issue had previously been investigated as far back as 2002 when most residents reported they did not see an issue with rogue parkers.
But 14 years later, he said there has been a rise in complaints.
He added: “In the past, the people were overwhelmingly against parking constraints in their areas.
“But there seems to have been a growth in the pressures on them. Commuter traffic has spilled over from neighbouring streets.
“All I am doing is trying to gain an understanding of these pressures at the local level.”
“I am not going into this with any agenda, I just want to hear what the public thinks.”
