Three fire appliances were sent to the Trinity Centre after a fire broke out on a ground floor escalator. They rushed to the scene at around 12.20pm and spent 20 minutes battling the blaze while police managed the crowds and traffic on Union Street. Nobody has been injured and it’s not thought the cause of the fire is suspicious. A fire service spokesman said: “The call came in at 12.20pm and we sent three apliances- two from central and one from North Anderson. “A small fire had been reported on a ground floor escalator. “Nobody was injured.” A police spokeswoman said: “We were simply called to managed traffic and crowd control.”
