Flood-hit Aberdeenshire butchers names sausage after Storm Frank
By
An Aberdeenshire butchers devastated by the flooding which heralded in 2016 has named a sausage after the very storm which caused the downpour.
HM Sheridan butchers, on Ballater’s Bridge Street, is the first flood-hit high street store in the village to reopen following the events of December 30.
Owners John Sinclair and Barry Florence have made huge progress to restore the outlet and have now officially stocked up and started trading again.
And, marking their reopening, they have started selling a “Storm Frank Sausage” at their meat counter.
The dish is made with venison “from the hills” and claims to be “bursting with Berry’s(sic)”.
The butcher’s supplies the Royal Family with meat during their stays at the Balmoral Estate.
Storm Frank caused the Dee to burst its banks on December 30 – heralding two weeks of flooding across the north-east.
In Ballater alone some 307 homes and 60 businesses were flooded.
The Sheridan shop – renowned throughout Deeside for its locally-sourced produce – was immersed in several feet of water, with staff forced to bin between £40,000 and £50,000 of stock.
