Plans have been lodged for the rebuilding of a garage in Aberdeen which was destroyed in a fire last December.
More than 100 people were forced to flee their homes in the early hours of the morning of December 22 when the Arnold Clark’s service centre in Torry burst into flames.
Fifty firefighters spent four hours battling the serious blaze which engulfed and destroyed the site and 11 cars which were inside the facility at the time.
Police subsequently ruled that the incident was not suspicious.
And now, proposals have been launched for a replacement for the garage on Girdleness Road which will include a service centre, a showroom, a workshop, a parts storage area, office accommodation and parking for customers.
The proposals have been submitted by Mackie Ramsay Taylor Architects to Aberdeen City Council.
A statement said: “The proposed development has been oriented in order that the public facade faces on to Girdleness Road.”
This is to give customers an immediately identifiable entry to the new garage site.
The developers continued: “To assist with orientation, the service centre and showroom will both feature fully-glazed facades, which will also allow for as much natural light to filter into the spaces as possible, helping to contribute to the proposed sustainability measures.
“The vehicle service workshop is the main private area of each facility, and as such, this is orientated away from the site entrance.
“This back of house area is principally occupied by the workshop containing the ramps and parts department.
“The existing yard area is to be retained to provide for vehicle parking to support the operations of the service department.”
It added: “We believe our proposals to be consistent with Aberdeen City Council’s Local Development Plan.
