Motorists have been warned to expect delays for the next two weekends as 20 massive beams for the long-awaited Aberdeen Western Peripheral Route/Balmedie to Tipperty project are transported through the city.
The beams, which will be delivered on special abnormal load trucks, will be transported one at a time this Saturday and Sunday, and the weekend of Saturday and Sunday April 9 and 10.
The giant will form the crucial bridge over the A96 Aberdeen to Inverness trunk road.
Transportation of the beams will begin each day from 7am onwards.
This weekend, the delivery trucks will join Wellington Road from the A90 as it turns left onto West Tulloas Road, right onto the B9077 South Deeside to Duthie Park road, and left onto Riverside Drive before turning left onto Holburn Street.
At the Bridge of Dee roundabout the vehicles will turn right and continue on the A90 Aberdeen to Peterhead road until they reach the Haudagain Roundabout.
They will then go westbound on the A96 Aberdeen to Inverurie dual carriageway until they reach the site.
On the following weekend of SAturday April 9, the trucks will following the previous weekend’s route and then continue along the westbound A90, through the contraflow, until they reach the Blackburn/Clinterty roundabout where they will turn and head back towards Aberdeen for dlivery to the easybound A96 dual carriageway.
A spokesman for the AWPR/BT project said: “We are working closely with Police Scotland and the local authorities to minimise any delays that these deliveries may bring.
“It is hope that the deliveries can all be completed on the weekends outlined, but Saturday April 16 has been identified as a back-up should any of the deliveries be affected by matters outwith the contractor’s control, such as poor weather.
“We would like to thank road users and the local community for their on-going support and patience during construction work.”
