The mother of Scotland’s most famous tennis player has joined forces with Robert Gordon University in Aberdeen to serve up a brand new tennis coaching scheme.
The new Judy Murray-headed project, operating thanks to the Denis Law Legacy Trust, will offer accessible coaching in the sport to children all across the Granite City.
Dubbed StreetTennis, the new initiative will form part of the award-winning and north-east based StreetSport programme, and will work with Ms Murray’s “Tennis on the Road” project.
Sessions of Street Tennis will help to engage children and encourage them to develop their skills of agility, balance and coordination.
Inspired by games Ms Murray liked to play with her famous son Andy while he was growing up, the project will be rolled out to four Aberdeen communities this year – Torry, Northfield, Inchgarth and Sheddocksley.
Ms Murray said: “I’m delighted to have the opportunity to work with StreetSport to help grow tennis in the Aberdeen area.
“My Tennis on the Road programme aims to build workforces in local communities so that many more kid and adults can try tennis.
“StreetSport is a dynamic charity with loads of enthusiastic volunteers so it’s a perfect partner for me.”
