An area of unused land in the north of Aberdeen could be transformed into the site of 15 new affordable homes.
A planning application in principle has been lodged with Aberdeen City Council to create the homes with associated infrastructure at the northern end of Jesmond Drive in Bridge of Don.
Developers, Carlton Rock, have taken the project forward after discussions with the Grampian Housing Association about constructing more affordable housing for families and individuals.
Located next to a bus stop and close to a Scottish Water pumping station, the land earmarked for construction is currently lying empty.
To facilitate different kinds of potential residents, Carlton Rock have made plans for the development to include one, two and three bedroom departments, including one home that will be fully wheelchair-accessible.
Previously, the developers had proposed to create 19 affordable houses on the Bridge of Don land last March.
The design statement for the project read: “The proposal is to provide much-needed high quality affordable housing on an area of open space in the north of the city.
“In terms of its wider context, the site is well connected to the city via the frequent number 2 bus service which stops at the bus stop.
“Adjacent to the site, there are good local amenities, including a small supermarket, cafe, and food takeaway and, slightly further away, a main supermarket.”
In October, Aberdeen City Council entered into partnership with Places for People Group Limited, for a £300 million partnership to deliver at least 2,000 new, affordable homes across the Granite City by 2017 – which would be adhering to the local authority’s strategic housing investment plan.
