An Aberdeen farmer has appealed for the owner of a dog, which killed one of his lambs and seriously injured six others, to admit their guilt and “put this right”.
Sandy Brown, a sheep farmer who owns Holmhead Farm in Bucksburn has been left distraught after his flock were attacked last week.
One of his newly-born lambs died after an unleashed dog punctured its head and neck, and six more were hurt in the attack which took place last Wednesday evening.
Two of the lambs which survived the incident are in a critical condition, and Mr Brown said that one of them is not expected to survive.
The owner of the medium-to-large dark-coloured dog was described as wearing a dark jacket and light hat, and Mr Brown said the dog would likely have been bloodied.
Mr Brown, 46, said: “It’s very frustrating and quite worrying. We have a lot of dog walkers and 99% of them are responsible.
“Nobody has come forward to apologise or put this right.
“The person knows they have done it, there was blood involved and the dog would have had blood on it.
“It’s upsetting to lose them [lambs] because it’s a problem getting them up and going, but once they’re alive, you shouldn’t be losing them.”
This incident is not the first time Mr Brown’s flock has been the victim of an irresponsible dog owner. Last September, a similar attack took place which resulted in nine sheep being injured and 36 wounded.
Mr Brown said “I just hope the person comes forward and I hope people can help.
“The sheep are petrified after an attack like that. The injured sheep are traumatised and one was only one month old.”
