Passenger numbers in Aberdeen were down last month, while Scotland’s two biggest airports recorded record-breaking numbers.
Edinburgh Airport saw 927,200 people pass through its doors last month, while Glasgow recorded more than 660,000.
But Aberdeen Airport suffered a decrease of 14.1% on the same period last year, with almost 245,000 passengers.
Domestic traffic was down 19.1%, with international traffic showing a slight dip of 1.7%.
Yesterday, Carol Benzie, managing director of Aberdeen International Airport, said: “Given the performance of the wider economy we fully expected a challenging start to the year, however, we have continued to work hard on providing passengers with more choice by securing new routes and I remain encouraged by our international traffic.”
Gordon Dewar, chief executive of Edinburgh Airport, said their “record breaking” figures from March underlined their international ambitions.
He said: “We have seen a massive increase of 37.6% in the number of international passengers and this highlights the ever-increasing draw of Edinburgh as a destination.
“This growth not only creates new jobs but offers greater international links for this city and for all of Scotland.”
Glasgow Airport also created history after it exceeded 8.9 million passengers during a rolling 12-month period for the first time ever.
Amanda McMillan, managing director of Glasgow Airport said: “Our performance during the first quarter of 2016 has ensured we’ve made what is our busiest ever start to a year.
“The fact we have achieved this in our 50th anniversary year makes it all the more pleasing.”
