An Aberdeen councillor has claimed that a review of parking in a busy Aberdeen street is “long overdue”.
SNP member Bill Cormie said a review of restrictions in Rosemount Place was promised by the local authority administration four years ago.
He said that cars parking on double yellow lines had made it difficult for motorists pulling out of side streets, resulting in minor accidents with drivers entering the road from residential areas.
Mr Cormie added: “The yellow lines have always been a problem. We have got fantastic shops in Rosemount, we are very proud of it and there is a good mixture of cafes, hairdressers and other shops.
“It is a great experience shopping in Rosemount. But there has been concern about over parking in particular.
“We have got good takeaways now and folk are popping in to pick up carry outs.”
Bollards have been placed outside of Sainsbury’s, but Mr Cormie argued they had been repeatedly knocked down by delivery lorries.
He added: “The administration promised us a review of the parking situation in Rosemount Place four years ago and they have done nothing about it.”
“Bollards are not the answer, they have been an absolute disaster, and double yellow lines are not the answer. We are still waiting for a review and, in the last four years, the problems have got worse.”
Aberdeen City Council leader, Jenny Laing, responded that the safety of road users and pedestrians was of the “utmost importance” for the city wardens service.
She said: “Illegal parking raises a significant threat to this public safety.
“Rosemount Place is one of the busiest areas in the city, which is why we have daily patrols to combat this issue.
“We are currently reviewing and monitoring the location and will increase our patrols at peak times.”
