The Scottish SPCA is appealing for information after finding three caged degus abandoned in an Aberdeen bin room.
The charity rescued the degus, also known as brush-tailed rats, last Wednesday after they were discovered in a communal bin shed on Great Northern Road and have since named them ‘Zap’, ‘Truffle’ and ‘Stig’.

Manager of the charity’s re-homing centre at Drumoak, Graeme Innes said: “These pets were found in a dirty cage although it did have food and water inside.
“While we understand people’s circumstances can change, there is no excuse for abandoning animals. whoever did this couldn’t have been sure these poor animals would receive the help they needed.”
“Apart from being a little underweight, they are in reasonably good health and will remain in our care until we can find them a loving new home.”
Anyone who knows who may have owned these animals should contact the Scottish SPCA on 03000 999 999.
