A corner of Mintlaw’s famous Square remains cordoned off this morning following the death of a man at a popular takeaway.
The scene of yesterday’s fatal disturbance, Mirchi Indian Takeaway, lies only yards from Central Buchan’s police headquarters.
Three police officers are standing guard around the cordon – which also includes the neighbouring Nisa convenience atore – while half a dozen reporters stand by.
But despite the drama and heavy police presence, people are continuing to go about their daily business.
The hot food takeaway at the centre of yesterday’s tragedy is understood to be popular with pupils from the nearby Mintlaw Academy.
And while they remain on holiday, shoppers and local residents continue to pass through The Square.
Police are continuing to investigate the death and described it as ‘suspicious’.
A spokesman said: “At 5.35pm yesterday police and ambulance attended at a commercial premises in Mintlaw, Aberdeenshire, to a report of a man having collapsed following a disturbance.
“Sadly the man could not be revived and was pronounced dead at the scene.
“Police Scotland are treating the death as suspicious and have launched an enquiry into the circumstances.
“Inquiries are at an early stage and no details of deceased can be released until next of kin have been contacted.”
