Drivers in Aberdeen’s West End have been targeted by police following complaints from residents.
The operation has been welcomed after speeding and parking problems were highlighted by members of the community.
Officers found 19 drivers had committed offences, 11 for driving too fast, seven for not parking properly and one for not having any insurance.
West End councillor Martin Greig said: “The decline in driving standards is a huge worry for people in these residential areas.
“There is a notable increase in traffic in the West End, which is a major cause for concern.
“There are many vulnerable pedestrians and drivers need to be responsible and respect the interests of others. The welfare of children deserves much greater attention.
“There are some pedestrians who have reduced mobility and they are also at risk from dangerous parking and irresponsible driving behaviour.”
Police focused their attention on Countesswells Road, Craigton Road, Cromwell Road and the areas around Airyhall and Ferryhill schools. Similar operations have already been planned for the future.
PC Conor McLeod of the West End Community Policing Team has urged drivers to take care in built-up areas.
He said: “This initiative was held in response to local concerns that the public have raised with us. The safety of all pedestrians and road users is paramount, especially around school areas.
“We will run similar operations in the future, but, in the meantime, I would urge motorists to be aware of their surrounding and, in particular, where they are parking and to watch their speed.
“There is always the potential that a child could run across a road and a car parked in a restricted area could lead to a motorist being unable to see a child crossing until it is too late.
“Always remember: in town, slow town.”
