Two men have died following a one-car smash on a north-east road.
The collision took place about 9.50pm last night on the A93 Banchory to Aboyne road, close to the entrance of the Aboyne Loch caravan park.
Emergency services arrived at the scene shortly afterwards and discovered a red Volkswagen Golf had left the road and struck a tree.
Both men inside the car, aged 24 and 32, were pronounced dead at the scene.
Their families have been informed.
The road was closed through the night and was opened jhust after 6am this morning.
Inspector Jon Barron, of the road policing unit, said: “This was a devastating and tragic incident which has very sadly resulted in the deaths of two young males. Our thoughts are very much with their families and friends at this difficult time.
“Our enquiries into the circumstances are at a very early stage. In order to help piece together exactly what has happened, it is vital that we speak with anyone that may have any relevant information. I would urge anyone who hasn’t yet got in touch with us to do so by phoning 101 or calling at their nearest police office.”
