Vandals have targeted a north-east primary school’s outdoor play area.
South Park Primary School, in Fraserburgh, had the door and window of its shed broken and the plants pulled up.
The culprits struck some time between 4pm on Monday and 6.45over Monday and Tuesday night this week.
Head teacher Carol Irvine yesterday branded the attacks as “really disappointing” and called for the property of the school to be treated with respect.
She said: “It is a learning environment which has a variety of resources which pupils from nursery to primary seven use to enhance their learning experiences, many aspects of which are being ruined by thoughtless acts.
Ms Irvine said that the school, on Philorth Avenue, is often targeted as the days get longer, and asked locals to be “extra vigilant”.
She said: “We want people surrounding the school to be aware that this is going on and to report it.”
Police Scotland, meanwhile, has confirmed that it is investigating the attacks.
A spokeswoman said: “Police Scotland is carrying out inquiries following vandalism at South Park Primary School, Fraserburgh, between 4pm on Tuesday, April 19, 2016 and 6.45am on Wednesday, April 20.
“Inquiries are ongoing and anyone with information is asked to contact police on 101.”
It is understood that officers want to speak with a group of young people who may have been in the area at the time of the incident.
Last night, local councillor Charles Buchan described the attacks as “upsetting”.
“The school’s staff has worked so hard on outdoor education and they have a lovely set up, so to see it mindlessly vandalised is very upsetting,” he said.
“You feel sorry for the children, really. I just hope that the people doing this grow up fast.”
