School pupils from across the north-east rocked the region’s biggest concert venue during a national music and dance event.
The annual Rock Challenge was held at the Aberdeen Exhibition and Conference Centre, with nine schools from across the city and shire taking part in the north-east heats.
The event challenges youngsters to choreograph and star in a short musical of their own creation.
Fraserburgh Academy pupils triumphed with their The Ugly Side of Beauty performance, which was praised for its “incredible vibrancy” and “show-stopping” hair and make-up.
Their performance explored the cruelty of animal testing, and judges were so impressed they sent the team through to June’s Scottish final.
Organised by the Be Your Best Foundation, the Rock Challenge project promotes positive and healthy lifestyle choices for youngsters.
Mintlaw Academy stole second spot with their Venemous Vanity performance, which told the tale of Medusa’s battle to lift her terrible curse in ancient Greece.
Turriff Academy’s show team claimed third spot with their retelling of Little Red Riding Hood, and Mackie Academy performed The Hunted to a crowd of more than 1,500 people.
Pupils from Westhill, Mearns, Harlaw and Inverurie academies also took part.
Peterhead Academy – who have automatically qualified for the Northern Premier Final in Grimsby in July after winning last year – opened the evening with their spectacular showcase performance Claire.
Peterhead are one of only two Scottish teams to have achieved the prestigious premier status.
Lord Provost of Aberdeen George Adam, who presented the awards, said afterwards: “I thought tonight was great, I loved all the performances, and just enjoyed seeing all the young people putting everything into it.
“They were professional performances, professionally staged and you can see how much they enjoyed it, the results are just brilliant.”
