A group of musicians from across the north-east have joined forces to pen a special album to raise cash for sick youngsters.
Fit Like Records has released a collection of tracks by artists from across the region called Songs By Bairns, with all proceeds going towards The ARCHIE Foundation, the official charity of the Royal Aberdeen Children’s Hospital.
Eight artists and bands volunteered their time to create songs for the cause, with each tune inspired by the paintings, pictures and words of children in their lives.
The label has taken part in a number of fundraisers in the past, and this year its founder Charley Buchan, 36, decided to choose ARCHIE for the support it provides to ill children and their families from all across the north-east, Orkney and Shetland.
Mr Buchan said: “We’re just a small label, but we like to help out as many local causes as we can because we think it’s important to be part of the local community.
“We weren’t sure who we could do a project for this time, until one of my friends at work showed me some music her kid had made, and we decided to do something for a children’s charity, inspired by children.
“One of the lads in one of the bands, his kid was really sick and he had been at the hospital, and ARCHIE really helped him out a lot throughout that, so they were an obvious choice.
“It’s an amazing cause, and I love what the guys have made with this album.”
Emma Slesser, a fundraising manager at The ARCHIE Foundation said: “They’ve taken the words of young children and set them to music, so they sometimes make you laugh and always make you think – it’s a great idea.
“We are also delighted that these children and the musicians have combined their talents to raise money and help to make a difference for local sick children through The ARCHIE Foundation.
“We are very grateful to them and every pound counts so I hope lots of people buy the CD and enjoy it, as we have.”
The album is available on www.fitlikerecords.bandcamp.com for £6.
