A community in Aberdeen has called for the city council to introduce a by-law to prevent vehicles from parking on pavements and violating double yellow line restrictions.
The local authority launched a review earlier this month after it was claimed bollards were being knocked down by delivery lorries outside Sainsbury’s on Rosemount Place.
But now, Willie Jaffray, of the Rosemount Community Council, has claimed bollards are insufficient to deal with the problems relating to cars in the city and wardens must regulate the issue.
He said: “The installation of bollards will help to stop some of the vehicles being parked on the pavement.
“But the real answer to the problem is to get a by-law in place and employ more city wardens to police the city in the way it should be done which isn’t being done at the moment.
“The problem is parking throughout the city.”
He added: “The city wardens have done their best to deal with unauthorised parking throughout the city, but it is an uphill climb.
“The public have been let off over the years and, as the photographs show, they just please themselves where they park and couldn’t care less what damage they cause by doing so.”
“Unfortunately, the council are paying to have the damage repaired over and over again because they haven’t bothered to put in place the by-law which could cut out vehicles being parked on the pavement causing damage.”
A spokesman for Aberdeen City Council declined to comment on the issue.
