A north-east Tory candidate has urged people to “respect the democratic process” after election posters were vandalised earlier this week.
Several signs urging people to support Alexander Burnett and Ruth Davidson were found with SNP spray painted over them in Crathes in Deeside.
And Mr Burnett, who is standing in Aberdeenshire West, condemned the incident.
He said: “It is a sad, but, unfortunately, predictable, reflection on our society today that this type of vandalism occurs during Scottish election campaigns.
“We saw it during the independence referendum and again in last year’s general election.
“This is a democratic process, and we would urge people on all sides to respect that.
“The Scottish Conservatives will continue making our case that this country needs a strong opposition to the SNP at Holyrood.
“We will also continue our steadfast support for the Union, which was overwhelmingly backed by the people of Aberdeenshire in the 2014 referendum.”
The other candidates in the seat are: Sarah Duncan (Labour), Dennis Robertson (SNP) and Mike Rumbles (Liberal Democrats).
