An Aberdeenshire woman who battled cancer has organised a fundraiser to thank the charity that supported her.
Alison Brown is delighted at the response her Purple Walk has already received, with more than 100 people signing up in just a few weeks.
Money from the 10K walk, which is open to all, will go direct to Clan.
Mrs Brown, of Kemnay, was diagnosed with cancer in 2014 and wanted to do something to give something back to the team that supported her through her illness.
The 35-year-old, who has two children, said: “I decided to organise the Purple Walk because I was diagnosed with cancer myself, and from there I was encouraged to attend Clan.
“I went every single week for a year. The staff and the volunteers there were fantastic, so I wanted to give them something back and it’s my way of saying thanks, so I arranged this but I had no idea that it would turn out to be as big as it is.
“We have registrations from all over, like Ellon, Pitmedden, Oldmeldrum, Dyce and Aboyne, really just all over Donside and Deeside.
“I am absolutely delighted with that – I think it’s because everybody knows what Clan is and sadly every family is affected by cancer in one way or another.”
The walk takes place on September 4 and will take participants around Kemnay. Afterwards, participants can enjoy a free burger from the barbecue at Bennachie Lodge and there will also be a bouncy castle and disco.
Mrs Brown, who stressed it was a “leisurely walk”, has no set target in mind as “anything would be fantastic” – and is already hoping it could become a regular fixture on the town’s calendar.
She added: “My husband, parents, sister, brother and friends have been my events team and they have just been fantastic – I never imagined the walk would be this popular. I am overwhelmed and totally stunned and delighted – I really can’t believe it and I hope it could maybe turn into an annual thing.”
Entry for the sponsored walk is £5. To register, visit www.purplewalk.co.uk
