An air ambulance was dispatched to a “ludicrous” Aberdeenshire road crossing yesterday after a car came off the road, partially through a bridge and into a burn.
The helicopter, along with police, fire and other ambulance teams, were called out to the scene of the accident on the B999 Pitmedden to Tarves road at its junction with the A920 Ellon to Pitmedden road just after 2.40pm.
Two women and one man were inside the red car when it crashed, and one of the women had to be cut free from the severely-damaged vehicle by fire fighters.
She was taken by ambulance to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary to be treated for head injuries, but, last night, a police spokeswoman said her injuries were not believed to be life-threatening.
Software developer, Rob Henderson, who lives in the house directly across from the scene of the crash, said this was just the latest in a series of incidents he had witnessed at the junction since moving to the area in 2004.
Mr Henderson, 48, said: “I’ve been recording accidents here for the last six years and I’ve seen 48 in that period of time in the vicinity of this junction.
“The last time it happened, which was just six months ago, a car took out our fence and wrote off two cars. There was about £18,000 of damage.
“Most people come through at about 45mph to 50mph, so speed isn’t really the key issue, the main problem is there’s a wee kink the corner of the road, it starts you wobbling, and people slam on the brakes.
“It’s just ludicrous. My garden wall was smashed down, we’ve had cars hit our front door, and my partner was out gardening while wearing her headphones and a car landed about 10 foot from her, so she’s no longer comfortable gardening there.”
The services of the air ambulance team, who were called to the scene because they were in the region at the time of the crash, were not required.
The road was closed for around two hours as the emergency services and a vehicle recovery team attended the scene.
