A group that worked tirelessly to build a network of tourist paths to showcase the best of the Buchan coastline are celebrating its completion.
Over the past six years, the Boddam and District Community Association has worked to raise money to revamp Sandford Hill near Peterhead.
The site, which incorporates the famous Stirling Hill quarry, offers views over the Bullers of Buchan and beyond.
The team raised enough cash to pay for more than half-a-mile of paths around the cliffs and hills, and celebrated their achievement on the association’s annual spring walk.
A completely new route has also been created to link the Stirling Hill and Sandford Hill pathways, providing a short route to the Den Dam.
A handrail and granite steps down to the Den Dam has been built along with picnic tables and benches.
The car park has been covered with tar shavings and the quagmire path to Remote Radar Head Buchan has been restored, providing RAF personnel with an all-weather access route.
Chairwoman Betty May said: “The Sandford Hill pathways were first spoken about on February 22, 2010. Work was carried out bit by bit when funding became available.
“The newly constructed path is being well used by walkers and runners.”
“We would recommend the pathways at Stirling Hill and Sandford Hill to people who like to walk and also to those who like to look at spectacular views from the area.”
Mrs May thanked all the organisations who have helped fund the scheme, including the Aberdeenshire Council area initiative and the Jo Walters Trust.
The paths are part of a new masterplan for the area which is being drawn up by developers behind the multimillion pound Energetica corridor between Peterhead and Aberdeen.
The association is also working to secure funding for three off-road buggies which could open up the scenic paths to disabled and elderly people.
