An Aberdeen architectural artist has drafted a new business opportunity by creating detailed drawings of some of the Granite City’s most beloved buildings.

Former Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art and Design student Jamie Cameron has brought to life such iconic sites as Marischal College, Bon Accord Baths and His Majesty’s Theatre, which he sells on to interested buyers.

The 26-year-old from Cults works out of his own studio in his home to create his sketches which can take days or even weeks to complete.

He will also work on commission as was the case with the [Save the] Bon Accord Baths design which he feels boosted the campaign to bring them back to life.

Mr Cameron said: “As an architectural artist, my real interest has been illustrating Aberdeen’s well-known granite landmarks and buildings.

“Having grown up and lived in Aberdeen all my life, I have a great affinity for our locally-built heritage, and as well as undertaking commissions, I sell signed copies of my work in the city galleries.

“Recently, I completed a highly-detailed illustration of Marischal College, as well as Provost Skene House, and both have proven popular, particularly the Marischal College piece which is available in two size editions.

“I also really like the Aberdeen Journals building on Lang Stracht. It is a type of brutalist architecture that’s unique.

“It is a very time-consuming process and I have to take numerous photographs of each subject to work from.

“But the finished product makes all the effort worthwhile.”
