A campaign has been launched in the north-east to encourage people with mental health difficulties to seek help for their problems.
NHS Grampian has teamed up with leading music acts Tinie Tempah and Example who will use a festival in Aberdeen next month to drive the message home.
The health body has also enrolled local hip-hop star Ransom FA, who marked the launch with a performance at North East Scotland College yesterday afternoon.
He said: “This is an important message and it’s critical people in Grampian realise there is help and support available when you need it.
“Some of the pressures young people face are immense.
“Too many people forget that, whether it be making new relationships, starting out on a new career, going through education, all on top of adjusting to adulthood – it isn’t always easy to cope at such a critical stage in life.
“There is nothing wrong with seeking a bit of help to deal with it and we are really keen to get that message out there.”
NHS Grampian’s mental health chief Julie Fletcher said the campaign was primarily focused on men aged between 16 and 24.
She added: “In Grampian, there is strong evidence females are more likely to seek help than men, especially among young people.
“The latest analysis shows nearly one in 10 females between 16 and 24 reported symptoms of depression, compared with only one in 100 men in the same age group.
“Yet there were nearly three times as many male as female suicide deaths in Grampian in 2014.
“That makes it pretty clear there is a gap and a lot of young men aren’t talking about these issues or seeking help when they need it.”
The Enjoy Music Festival will take place in Hazlehead Park on Saturday, June 4.
As part of its support for the new campaign, health messages from NHS Grampian will be displayed at the event throughout the day.
Ms Fletcher called this a “unique chance.”
She said: “We need to change things, which is what the partnership with Enjoy Music Festival is all about.
“It’s a unique chance to let thousands of young people know about the host of help and support available in Grampian through the NHS and our partners.”
