Local volunteers are getting into the swim this weekend to prepare for the opening of an iconic north-east tourist attraction.
The Friends of Stonehaven Open Air Pool are putting the final stages to their work before the venue prepares to makes a splash once again.
The Art Deco amenity, which will reopen to the public on May 28, is Britain’s only heated Olympic-sized, open-air swimming facility and the volunteer group have been busy restoring the venue after a winter of heavy storms caused significant damage.
The Friends group chairman, Peter Hills, said: “We have already spent more than £8,500 this year on getting the pool ready for opening.
“This has been used for necessary items, including equipment, materials and tools for the physical work at the pool as well as producing 25,000 attractive leaflets to promote it.
“These are being professionally and widely distributed in Aberdeen, Aberdeenshire, Dundee, Angus, Perth and Perthshire.
“The pool is also being promoted online through our website and social media.”
For their final fundraising blowout this weekend, they will be hosting a coffee morning on Saturday, May 21 from 10am until noon.
There will also be an array of stalls and entry is £2.50 for adults and £1 for children, to be paid on entry at St Bridget’s Hall, Stonehaven.
On Sunday, May 22, the group will benefit from a car boot sale in Stonehaven’s Market Square from 8am-1pm.
The Friends are also offering local businesses the opportunity to support the pool and several retailers and takeaways have already pledged money towards backing one of Stonehaven’s busiest summer venues.
