A Dons fan who has collected hundreds of football shirts is now appealing for help to track down a rare piece of history.
Malcolm McDougall has amassed around 300 to 400 shirts, which he believes are worth around £50,000.
The 47-year-old began holding on to his old shirts in 1981, but it wasn’t until 10 years later that he began seriously collecting them.
And now his collection is so vast, he even lends the shirts – which include his old ones and match-worn strips from clubs across the world – to museums.
Mr McDougall, who is from Lanark but supports Aberdeen and Liverpool, has so many he cannot pick a favourite from his Aberdeen Super Cup final shirt, a Kenny Dalglish Liverpool top and Peter Cormack’s Scotland shirt from the 1974 World Cup.
He added: “Id’ imagine it’s probably around £50,000 worth of stuff. I just love football and old strips.
“I just had work from the National Football Museum in Manchester – they’re wanting to borrow my Portugal ’66 World Cup shirt.
“I’m working on Peter Weir’s 1983 Cup Winners’ Cup shirt.”
He said if he could obtain the top, he would offer it – along with his signed Aberdeen Super Cup shirt – to the Dons to display at Pittodrie.
And the postie is now looking for one specific top to add to the collection – a one-off strip worn by Aberdeen for a pre-season friendly against Arsenal in 1983.
The game was played to mark 100 years of the Boys’ Brigade, with both team’s shirts featuring the organisation’s badge.
