A man was taken to hospital today after a house in a north-east village burst into flames.
Three crews of firefighters were deployed to Rosehearty to tackle the fire which engulfed a home on the village’s Dundarg Road.
Units from Fraserburgh and Maud were alerted to the incident at about 3.10pm, when flames were spotted in the front room of the property and black smoke billowed from its chimney.
A spokeswoman for the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service said 19 firefighters in total were sent to the fishing village to tackle the blaze.
She added: “It’s a two-story building. We got the call at 3.10pm, and there were three fire engines sent – two from Fraserburgh and one from Maud.”
Crews battled the fire for an hour and a half before a stop message was sent to the control room.
Firefighters remained on the scene after the flames were doused to make sure that the area was safe.
While the fire service fought to save the property, police said an ambulance carried a man – believed to be the owner of the home – to nearby Fraserburgh Hospital.
A police spokeswoman said that officers were alerted to the incident just before 3.15pm.
She added: “In the end, one person has been taken by ambulance to Fraserburgh Hospital and is thought to be suffering from smoke inhalation.”
The cause of the fire is currently unknown. No one else is understood to have been injured in the incident.
