An annual event which has raised thousands of pounds for a variety of local good causes will celebrate its silver jubilee this weekend.
All roads have led to Fraserburgh for the past 25 summers, and this Sunday will be no different when car enthusiasts descend upon the town to admire a range of vintage vehicles.
The hugely popular festival, organised and run by James Gray and a team of dedicated volunteers, celebrated its 24th year last June when about 4,000 people packed out the town’s Leisure Centre.
This year, the same numbers are expected to admire over 700 unique vehicles, displays and events.
Last night, Mr Gray said the 2015 rally had surpassed all expectations, adding: It all depends on the weather if we reach those numbers this year.
“It’s weather-driven, but I would like to think we will manage it, because we have over 700 entrants coming this year, which we’ve never had before.
“It appears to be growing in popularity every year, and there are new enthusiasts coming out of the woodwork all over the place which is a good sign.
“I don’t really know what the secret is behind our success. It’s not just the effort that my wife and I make, but what everyone else puts into it on the day. We must be doing something right.”
Since the first car rally, Mr Gray has donated profits from events to local good causes.
He explained: “We’re hoping this year, with whatever the donations are, we will push the amount which we have given away to £250,000.
“I think that’s an excellent achievement in its own right.”
This year’s rally will feature an array of machines, representing Scotland’s own farming history, as well as American hot rods and vintage trucks.
In addition to the vast ensemble of vehicles from different eras, the day will include crowd-pleasing displays by a stunt team, wood-carving demonstrations, and a craft fair with dozens of stalls inside the venue.
Gates open for the rally at Fraserburgh Leisure Centre at 12.30pm.
