Plans to convert a Victorian mansion in the west end of Aberdeen into offices was approved by councillors yesterday.
First designed in 1899 by renowned Granite City architect George Coutts, the B-listed, two-story property at 94 Queen’s Road will now be transformed into a modern business centre.
At yesterday’s planning development and management committee, members voted in favour of the redevelopment by 10 votes to four.
Ramsay Milne, the convener of the committee, said: “I think it is an appropriate use of the building because although it is in a residential area, there has been little interest in the property as a residential home, and there are already a number of established businesses in the area.
“There is a strong case for the change of use.”
One of the objectors, Councillor Jennifer Stewart, said at the meeting: “I have read the report, and spoken to residents, and they are very concerned with what is being proposed.
“They feel that changing the property into offices will change their quality of life, and there is real concern that the changes to infrastructure in the area could turn the lane behind it into a rat run.”
