An Aberdeen comedy group is gearing up to tread the boards at the city’s most prestegious theatre for the first time tonight.
The Flying Pigs will kick start 10 consecutive nights of their new show, Dreich Encounter, this evening at HM Theatre in a bid to generate funds for Guide Dogs for the Blind.
The group, consisting of Moray Barber, Elaine Clark, Greg Gordon, Sudan Gordon, John Hardie, Craig Pike and Steve Rance, has become a firm favourite in the Granite City due to their Doric sketches and north-east tinged humour.
The members met at a student show in 1997 and before long were performing their own gig at the city’s Lemon Tree.
Such was their popularity that they have returned to the same venue with sellout crowds for 17 consecutive years.
Their fan base then grew when they headlined at Aberdeen Arts Centre’s first ever comedy festival in 2001.
The group went onto nationwide fame when they recorded the first of three series of Desperate Fishwives for Radio Scotland in 2007 and three years later filmed a half hour TV pilot which was set in and around Aberdeen.
Guide Dogs for the Blind, which will benefit from their ten days of performing, provides guide dogs, mobility and other rehabilitation services to help those who have difficulty to lead a fulfilled life.
Tickets are available for the show online.
