A north-east village was packed with visitors and competitors over the weekend as they gathered for the 19th annual Cornhill Highland Games.
The increasingly-popular event began early with a record 186 participants in the Highland dancing contest before the heavy and lightweight games followed in the afternoon.
Last night, the event’s secretary, Shona Hay, said: “The weather was generous to us – it was a fine dry day and we had a good crowd.
“There was much and such the same number of spectators as usual, but the 186 entries for the Highland dancing is a record for the Grampian games circuit.”
She added: “The committee would like to thank all the sponsors and helpers from the local community.”
The afternoon programme of events included the athletics, caber tossing and road race.
The competition also included the Knock Hill race, which was introduced as part of the games in 1970.
It was originally planned as a one-off fundraiser for a new village playing field, but was such a success it was made a firm fixture.
Runners have to complete the eight-and-a-half mile course from Cornhill to the top of Knock Hill and back in under one hour and 45 minutes.
