Police are hunting for two armed robbers who held up a shop in Aberdeen yesterday.
Officers were called out to DSG’s General Store in Bucksburn at around 10.30am after the raiders stormed the shop brandishing knives.
The duo then emptied the entirety of the till before making off with the cash and a stash of cigarettes.
It is understood the female owner of the shop on Bankhead Road was working at the time, however she was too upset to comment on the incident last night.
The age of the culprits has not yet been released but it is believed the shop has passed on CCTV footage to the authorities.
Following the robbery local residents raised their concerns over the violent nature of the crime.
Scott Mackenzie, who lives on the street, said: “I have lived here for two years and haven’t heard of anything like this happening so close to home.
“I have always felt safe living here so to hear about the robbery, and especially that they had knifes with them, it must have been horrible for the person in the shop but also a little worrying for me.”
Another neighbour also said he felt crimes of this nature were rare in the area.
He said: “I came home this morning and saw all the police cars outside, I think there were about five in total.
“When I was told what had happened I was really shocked, I have lived here for many years and go to that shop often.
“Little children live around here and cycle up and down the road at that time, especially when the weather is so nice.
“To have this kind of incident on your doorstep is a bit worrying but I feel like it is quite rare and hopefully won’t happen again.”
However, another local said he was concerned about the growing number of incidents which had been taking place in the area recently.
He said “vandalism and crime” had been on the up and claimed there was recently a series of incidents at allotments nearby.
He said: “The fact they had knives is shocking but in the last few weeks there has been loads of vandalism around here.
“Loads of sheds have been broken into and there’s been a tonne of issues behind the bowling green.”
Last night a police spokesman confirmed they had attended the scene at DSG’s General Store yesterday morning.
He said: “We were in attendance at the scene this morning and enquiries are on-going.”
