Aberdeenshire residents are being asked to take part in a series of special events to identify one of the world’s most iconic birds.
Starting today, RSPB Scotland will hold a series of walks at its Fowlsheugh nature reserve, near Stonehaven, to spot puffins along the coast.
The Pick Out a Puffin walks begin at 7pm tonight and continue until July.
More than 100,000 seabirds return every year to Fowlsheugh, which has been designated a site of special scientific interest.
Spokeswoman for RSPB Scotland, Kirsty Nutt, said: “Fowlsheugh is one of my favourite places to visit at this time of year.
“Thousands of guillemots, razorbills and kittiwakes are back on the cliffs ready for a busy breeding season.
“Experiencing the sights, sounds and smells of a bustling seabird colony is a wildlife spectacle that’s not to be missed and there is a good chance you’ll spot a puffin or two as well.”
The walks will also take place on June 21 and July 5 at 7pm, with each one led by a local volunteer.
Participants are asked to meet at the reserve entrance 10 minutes before the walks start.
Places are limited so booking is essential. There is a £5 suggested donation, or £3 for those with a RSPB membership card.
