Charities across the north-east have been given a slice of £25,000 thanks to local shoppers.
The 17 Spar stores around Aberdeen have collected the cash through the 5p bag charge, and staff have now decided to split the amount between five charities.
Maggie’s Aberdeen, Clan Cancer, The Archie Foundation, Friends of Roxburghe House and VSA have each been given £5,000.
Susan Sutherland, Maggie’s Aberdeen centre head, said: “We are very thankful to the customers of the Spar stores around Aberdeen who have been able to raise such a fantastic amount.
“Maggie’s relies solely on voluntary donations to keep the centre operational so amounts like this mean a lot to us.
“This donation will go a long way and will help us continue to give the valuable support we offer our visitors here at the Centre.”
Bill Christie, Spar area manager, said: “We are thrilled to be handing over this donation to our local Maggie’s centre.
“The customers who bought their plastic bags have been able to generate a great amount to help assist the charity with its valuable work.”
