Hundreds of north-east school children enjoyed a fun day packed with activities yesterday.
Nearly 40 primary schools from across Aberdeen and Aberdeenshire attended this year’s Kids Out event at the Scottish Agricultural College (SAC) in Craibstone.
Some 600 local youngsters were among the 25,000 from across the UK and Ireland taking part in the Rotary International-organised initiative.
The event is held to give children with learning difficulties and disabilities a day they will never forget.
Simon Kilkerr, one of the event’s organisers, said it is always a day to remember for the youngsters who come along.
The vice-chairman of the Oldmeldrum Rotary Club, who is catering convener of Kids Out, said: “To see everyone so happy is fantastic and a huge thank you to everyone who has come along to help support us, with the horse rides, face painting, bouncy castle and the police cars are also being a big hit.
“This is something for the kids to really look forward to; it’s great to raise the profile of the event every year as well.
“This event has been going for over 20 years now and we’ve been able to now run a really slick operation and have something for everyone to enjoy.”
Diane Wood, from the Oldmeldrum Rotary Club, said: “It’s amazing to see the event finally come together, this is my first year being involved in Kids Out and it has been a great experience.
“Having all the different rotary clubs come together is great and seeing the smiles on all the children’s faces is fantastic and really what the event is all about.”
SAC Dean, Krysten Black commended those who organised the event on a great day out.
She said: “I am delighted that the weather has held up for the young people, I think there are about 600 people on campus and everyone is really enjoying the day.
“We have a great facility here and are thrilled that everyone is here today to use it. We’ve been hosting the event for a while and we love having everyone here and it’s definitely getting bigger and better every year and it’s a fantastic event.
“Without the efforts of all the rotary clubs each year this couldn’t go ahead so our complete thanks to everyone involved.”
