A man and a woman were injured during a disturbance at a house in an Aberdeenshire town.
Police and ambulance crews teams were called to Brimmond Crescent in Westhill following reports of what is understood to have been a domestic incident.
Locals said they believed one person had been attacked with a weapon.
Last night, police could not confirm if that was the case, but said a “fairly serious assault” had taken place.
Officers have been investigating the incident it was reported around 8pm on Tuesday and yesterday the house was still cordoned-off with tape and a patrol car was parked nearby.
Neighbours said six police cars, two ambulances and forensic teams were on the scene on the night of the incident.
Last night, a police spokeswoman said: “It was domestic in nature. Inquiries are at an early stage. Two people have been injured. They were taken to hospital.”
She added it was “too early” in the investigation to release any further details.
The nature and extent of the pair’s injuries is not known and no one has yet been charged.
Residents said they were surprised when they saw the heavy police presence on the street.
One Westhill woman said: “We never heard any commotion or anything like that. We heard nothing at all.
“The police have been there since it happened and the ambulances were there on Tuesday.
“The police came here and were just asking if we’d heard anything.”
A woman who lives nearby said: “There was six police cars and two ambulances. The first came at 8pm. It is just one of those weird things, we are all quite friendly with each other here.”
Another man, who lives near the house, said: “We came home to see that the road was blocked off, there were at least three or four police cars and it was all cordoned-off. Nobody knows what has happened.”
