A north-east country park will host an arts festival this weekend.
Visitors to Aden Country Park in Mintlaw, are being encouraged to explore the nature venue and discover a range of new public art installations which go on display this Sunday.
The event – which runs between 11am and 4pm – follows on from a public consultation which asked local people what they wanted from the village’s tourist attraction.
The first step towards that has resulted in the Midsummer Arts Festival, which will offer a range of activities for all ages including an opportunity to see the art work of the six commissioned artists who are exploring the theme of secrets, stories and mysteries.
Artwork will include a 10-foot badger, a poetry walk, sand painting, an opportunity to play scrabble in Doric, and a trail of welcome shelters.
Hazel Weeks of Friends of Aden said: “This is hopefully the start of something new and exciting for Aden Country Park.
“The Friends of Aden have been working closely with Aberdeenshire Council, Buchan Development Partnership and Icecream Architecture on the development of the public art strategy for Aden.
“We hope that the public get behind the event and the introduction of art in the park.
“If we get positive feedback, we hope to apply for further funding to help make Aden a cultural hub for north Aberdeenshire.”
The onsite Aberdeenshire Farming Museum is also officially launching its new temporary museum exhibition as part of the Midsummer Arts Festival.
The exhibition aims to explore what visitors think and feel about the farming heritage of the north-east of Scotland.
The development of the Aden Country Park public art strategy has been made possible through funding support from Aberdeenshire Council’s public art scheme.
