Police in Peterhead have arrested eight people in a targeted crackdown on those who fail to appear in court.
All eight were wanted on warrant and were arrested between June 20-22 by officers from the northeast port.
The individuals were due to appear at Peterhead Sheriff Court in connection with serious and violent crimes ranging from dishonesty to weapons offences.
Constable Sara Green, who led the operation, said: “This has allowed us to put these persons in front of the court, allowing the judicial process to move forward quickly.
“I want to reassure the Peterhead community that it is a priority for officers to ensure that all offenders within our area are brought to justice quickly.
“Unfortunately, sometimes this is not possible for a variety of reasons and, most commonly, warrants are granted for suspects and witnesses alike for non-appearance.”
Constable Green “stressed” that anyone going through the court process was required to attend on dates given and that arrest warrants would be issued if people failed to appear.
She added: “Should a warrant be issued for your arrest, we will make every effort to trace you and bring you to justice.”
