Youngsters at an Aberdeen primary schoolhave raised more than £8,000 for a cancer charity in the city following a sponsored dance-a-thon.
The pupils at Broomhill School embarked on the fundraising drive to pay tribute to former head teacher Kathy Rohan, who died in February after being diagnosed with the disease.
The idea to raise funds through dancing came about from the school’s charities and enterprise committee.
The group, from all years in the school, chose their own music and dance routines and recorded tutorial videos which were shared with every class the school.
The youngsters practices routines for several weeks whilst collecting sponsorship money.
The dance-a-thon went ahead on Monday, June 13, with a morning and afternoon session to include both nursery classes.
Parents were invited to watch as the youngsters performed five routines non-stop over a half an hour period.
They eventually raised £8,807 which was passed onto Friends of Anchor yesterday, which helped Mrs Rohan and her family during her battle with cancer.
Hannah McLaren, a classroom teacher in charge of the charities and enterprise committee, said afterwards:
“The children thoroughly enjoyed the run up to the event and have done themselves and our school proud.”
Fellow teacher Stacy Murray added: “We are delighted and overwhelmed with the sponsorship amount that’s been raised by the children.”
Mrs Rohan served as head teacher of Broomhill School for six years having first joined as a deputy in 2002.
Acting head teacher Richard Carter said: “Mrs Rohan was very well thought of throughout her many years at Broomhill and played a big part in not only the school but the community.”
