An Aberdeen salon owner described herself as “absolutely gutted” after thieves smashed through her firm’s window and stole hundreds of pounds worth of hair straighteners.
Police were called to Tek-nique Hair Design on the city’s Hollybank Place at around midnight on Monday after a member of the public noticed the property had been raided.
The criminals made off with around £620 worth of hairdressing gear, including five expensive GHD brand straighteners which had been on top of a display close to the window.
Owner Lisa Longmuir, 50, was forced to guard her store overnight while she tried to find someone to fix the shattered glass.
She said: “We’re absolutely gutted.
“They didn’t actually enter the premises, they just smashed a hole through it, reached through and grabbed the GHD’s.
“We’ve had a display there since we first opened 27 years ago, and something like this has never happened before.”
“We don’t keep any money here overnight, and it’s alarmed, so they will have done it purely for the straighteners.
“No glaziers in the whole of Aberdeen would answer their 24-hourcall out number, so we had to stay in the store till 6am.
“With the window gone, it was absolutely freezing. And the only reason we managed to get it boarded up was the fact one of my clients owns a company and she sent her boys out early this morning.
“I don’t think they targeted us specifically, they just saw the expensive GHDs and stole them to make some money.
“I just hope someone saw something and tells the police.”
Police have also confirmed the window of a nearby property, the old gun shop opposite the Holburn Bar, had been targetted in a similar smash and grab, which resulted in the theft of a number of ornaments.
And the Tek-nique raid comes just a week after Beautylicious, a hair salon on Rosemount Viaduct, was broken into.
A police spokeswoman said: “We were called just after midnight by a member of the public.
“The hairdresser had been broken into and we arrived to find a window had been smashed.
“Inquiries are ongoing.”
