One north-east graduate was all smiles yesterday as she fulfilled her dream of graduating from university.
Rebecca Lewis from Portlethen celebrated with family and friends as she graduated from Robert Gordon University with a 2:1 in public relations.
Miss Lewis said she knew early on she wanted to go into further education to study.
And now looking back, she said her time at RGU had been “everything I had hoped for.”
The 21-year-old said: “I think its great life experience, you have the rest of your life to work but going and doing a degree has so many benefits, you gain a great qualification, meet so many new people and have so much fun at the same time.
“I knew I wanted to do something business related, but at the same time had some sort of creativity to it.
“Public relations was great, you had that business aspect and the theoretical side but being able to create campaigns, work with social media and come up with new ideas for strategies added the creative aspect.”
Miss Lewis originally came to RGU from North East Scotland College through the 2+2 route and she passed her third year with distinction which was a real boost for her going into fourth year.
During her time at RGU she also undertook a placement allowing her to move to Newcastle which she said was a real highlight.
She said: “Academic wise, third year was so much fun, it was really practical based and also had a placement which was a great opportunity for me and I got to move to Newcastle for it.
“I’ve also loved university for the social aspect, you meet so many great people and everyone gets on with each other. I’ve made some great friends through university and I’m going to miss seeing them every day.”
Miss Lewis’ journey with RGU doesn’t end here however as she has accepted a place on the MSc Journalism course which starts in September.
She concluded: “I don’t quite feel ready to say goodbye to RGU so I’m thrilled to be going back this year, I get on with all the staff well here so it’ll be great to go back and continue my journey here.”
