For the last 20 years one mature student had spent her life DJ’ing all over the world.
But yesterday she said taking on the challenge of university was one of the best decisions she had made.
Anne Savage, from Aberdeen, took to the stage in His Majesty’s Theatre to collect her first class degree in events management.
The mature student, who lives in the Bridge of Don area, said she is testament that you “are never too old to use education as a gear stick for a career change”.
And she said she would love to encourage people to go into higher education at a later age.
After a very successful career travelling the world DJ’ing and producing music, Miss Savage decided she needed qualifications to enable career possibilities.
She said: “I have found my time at university a really rewarding experience and that it has brought out the best in me and without a doubt it has been the best thing I have ever done.
“In the ceremony I really had a tear in my eye, I am so proud of what me and my classmates have all achieved today and I can’t wait to see what is next.”
Yesterday, Miss Savage said she was overjoyed to have achieved a first class degree after all her hard work.
She also said her time spent organising events was a highlight and that it had prepared her well for the next step in her life.
She said: “I enjoyed organising our Live Music concert and have subsequently organised another event at the same venue, through the contacts I forged during the course.
“I highly recommend going to university, even later in life. It has given me the confidence to fulfil my plans for a career change.”
Miss Savage has decided to specialise in event safety and is planning to undertake a NEBOSH diploma in health and safety which will take her one step closer to being a chartered health and safety officer.
She then plans to set up her own event safety consultancy with and ex tutor or hers.
