A north-east man who assaulted a police officer will have to wait until next month to learn his fate.
David Sim appeared at Aberdeen Sheriff Court yesterday, where he also admitted behaving in a threatening and abusive manner and resisting arrest.
The court heard the 39-year-old, who lives at 53 Elphinstone Road, Port Elphinstone, had walked into Mitchells on Market Place, Inverurie, and claimed he had been short-changed.
Fiscal depute Katie Begg said an employee could smell alcohol on Sim’s breath and asked him to leave.
Sim subsequently left the store and went in through a side entrance where he spoke to another staff member.
He continued to demand the money he claimed he was owed and was asked to leave a second time, but refused to do so.
Both employees threatened to call the police and at this point, the court heard, Sim started to shout and swear at them.
Police were called but were unable to find Sim, who by that point had left and walked into Watsons ironmongers on the same street and again demanded money.
When he was refused the cash, he shouted and swore at staff and stormed out of the shop.
Officers who were still at the scene tracked down Sim shortly afterwards.
He repeatedly swore at them and when refused to calm down, Ms Begg added.
She told the court that as Constable John Kierney began to charge him he lunged and tried to push his way past to run away.
Constable Kierney and a colleague restrained Sim but he attempted to flee again and threatened to “break” the officer’s face.
Sim was then arrested but tried to butt Constable Kierney and eventually was restrained and taken into custody after more officers arrived.
After he was charged, Sim apologised for his actions and told the officers they shouldn’t have to put up with his behaviour when they have already have so much to deal with because of “the young ‘uns”.
Sheriff Morag McLaughlin deferred sentencing on Sim for the preparation of background reports.
