Residents at a north-east sheltered housing complex are delighted after Aberdeenshire Council finally spruced up their garden – months after they first raised concerns.
Earlier this month, residents of Pleyfauld House in Inverurie contacted the Press and Journal after growing frustrated at the state of the grounds.
They accused the authority of ignoring them after they were left to maintain the grounds of the building.
It came after they were assured by the local authority that gardening staff would attend the property, but nobody had offered help for more than 18 months, forcing residents to do it on their own.
Yesterday, 83-year-old Grace Reid yesterday thanked the P&J for highlighting their plight and said she was sure it had helped get the problem resolved.
She said: “We couldn’t believe it – the article went out on a Wednesday, and on the Thursday six gardeners turned up.
“They’ve sorted all the weeds and planted all new flowers, the residents are very happy.
“But this is the second year on the trot we have had to involve the P&J to get anything done which is frustrating.
“There is no doubt in our minds that without the help of the P&J nothing would have been done.”
Yesterday, Aberdeenshire Council confirmed they had attended the property to work on the garden after running behind schedule this year.
Residents had also been forced to contact the paper last year after they have not been able to make use of a number of facilities, two years after upgrading works commenced.
