Thousands of visitors and competitors flocked to a historic celebration of the north-east’s farming industry.
New Deer Show has never been delayed or cancelled in its 169-year history, and the tradition continued at the weekend when about 6,000 people flocked to the Buchan village to take part.
The line-up for the two-day show included traditional livestock contests, children’s races and a highly anticipated tractor pulling contest.
One of the biggest draws, however, was the show’s own version of the inflatable obstacle course – It’s a Knockout.
Last night, show president, Graham Pirie, said competitors had set high standards again this year.
He said: !The weekend has gone really well and there’s been a great mixture of people here.
“I think everybody has had a good time and I’m really happy with the numbers.
“There’s been a lot of variety on offer this year which has catered for a lot of different kinds of people.
“Yesterday was the livestock showing, so that drew the farming crowd. And today was the family day, so there’s been lots going on for the kids.
“No sooner does this show finish, though, and we’ll be starting preparations for the next one.
“It’ll be a case of thinking up some ideas again and getting another good show on for next time.”
As well as traditional events, chef Craig Wilson from the Eat on the Green restaurant was on hand over Sunday to give visitors a live cooking demonstration.
The show also celebrated the 80th anniversary of Ferguson and Massey Ferguson tractors, many of which were on display.
Local MP Eilidh Whiteford attended this year’s event, where she hosted constituency surgeries.
She praised the longevity of the show.
“New Deer Show is a great local event with a long tradition,” she said.
“It is one of the highlights of the north-east calendar and attracts a huge crowd.
“It is a testament to the hard work of the office bearers and committee that the show continues to go from strength to strength, showcasing the best of Buchan livestock.”
