A massive thunderstorm dominated the skies over the north-east of Scotland in the early hours of this morning.
Rip-roaring thunder and dramatic bolts of fork lightning could be seen illuminating the skies over Aberdeen around 4am.
People across the north-east will have been woken from their sleep by the noise of the thunder, more akin to blasts you’d expect to hear in a war zone, than your average rainy night over the Granite City.
Earlier in the evening the storm could be seen over more central areas and there were reports of it in the west Highlands around midnight.
Thousands of people took to social media posting video and pictures of the tropical storm which followed a day of record breaking temperatures across Scotland.
