Five north-east parks have been awarded the prestigious Green Flag award in recognition of their quality.
Environment charity Keep Scotland Beautiful announced yesterday that a record number of parks have been presented with the award across the country.
In Aberdeen, Duthie Park, Hazlehead Park and Seaton Park all picked up the coveted prize. And Aden Country Park and Haddo Park were the two recipients in Aberdeenshire.
Last night Keep Scotland Beautiful chairman Dr Lindsay Montgomery, CBE said: “Good quality green space is vital to the health and wellbeing of local communities, families and individuals – that is why it is fantastic to see Scotland’s parks and green spaces going from strength to strength.”
Aberdeen City Council’s Communities, Housing and Infrastructure vice-convener Jean Morrison added: “It is fantastic three of our biggest and most-loved parks have been awarded Green Flag status.
“I’d highly recommend that residents and visitors alike should visit any of the three parks just now when the flowers are in full bloom and there are lots of events on at this time of year.”
Her words were echoed by Alison Evison, chairwoman of Aberdeenshire’s leisure committee, added.
She said: “This is great news for Aberdeenshire, and particularly for both of these well-known country parks.”
